Have you ever been the "new kid" at your school? Can you say...Scary?! Well, you can relate to Jasmine Jones! She is a 3rd grader that is nervous about transferring to a new school. She just knows this will be the worst day ever! However, as the day goes by she realizes that each friend she meets shares a common interest with her. This makes her first day experience better than she expected. The author, Gerzalle A. Blanks, is a first grade teacher. "Goodbye Butterflies" is a must-have children's book for your school or home library. The main character experienced a range of emotions and I was challenged to show those in the story. I relished experimenting with texture and bright colors.

I created artwork in black and white to allow readers to color and more deeply reflect on the written words of the poet, Dorian Rogers. This poetry ad adult coloring book gives unique perspectives on issues related to self-love, self-identity, race, education, colorism, and socio-economics. The Million Mile Stare aims to provide a sense of catharsis to readers as they explore the written words while creating new art of their own through coloring.
